Nilsson In Coma After Tragic Accident

Ik werd geschokt door dit tragische nieuws op Hotlap.

Nilsson In Coma After Tragic Accident

Swedish championship contender André Nilsson was involved in a horrible accident at this past weekend´s national in Vasteras.

Nilsson was leading the MX3 moto as Niklas Hermansson lost control of his bike on the other side of the track and slammed into him. Nilsson had no chance. It was a freak incident, maybe one in a million.

Nilsson, 30, is in a hospital in Uppsala and has been diagnosed with a head trauma and serious inuries to his upper body. He´s in coma.

Said former GP winner Peter Johansson, who´s with André´s family in the hospital: "We can not do anything else than pray to God and hope that he will recover."

The moto was red-flagged and Jonny Lindhe (Honda) named the winner. The earlier held MX1 race belonged to Joakim Karlsson (Yamaha) and MX2 to Stefan Andersson (Yamaha), but who cares?

Nilsson had won the two opening rounds of the Swedish MX3 championship and was lying second in the points.

The accident has shocked the country. Races have been cancelled and André´s fellow riders in his club will not race next weekend. Everyone is crossing fingers instead.

Poor Niklas Hermansson is Ok physically, but feeling miserable.

You may want to include André Nilsson, his wife Lotta and nine-month old daughter Emma into your prayers. They need it.

Ergens op een Zweedse site kunnen lezen dat zijn toestand ondertussen is geëvolueerd van zorgwekkend naar stabiel.

Nilsson Doing Better

Swedish rider André Nilsson has made some good progress in the last seven days.

What a difference a week makes. Since being re-located to Sahlgrenska Hospital in Gothenburg a few days ago, André Nilsson´s recovery progress has been significant. His head trauma has basically disappeared and he has shown signs of movement in both his arms and legs.

Nilsson is still breathing through a respirator and mostly kept in an artificial coma. But, yesterday for the first time, he has opened his eyes and recognised his father.

His shoulder is a mess and remains a concern. Doctors have made the decision to perform surgery rather sooner than later.

Said Jimmy Edvardsson, a member of Nilsson´s club Skene MS: "Somewhere I belive that all quite prayers and crossed fingers have helped."

Poor Niklas Hermansson, who has been involved in the freak incident that saw him loose control of his bike, miss a corner and hit Nilsson riding by on the opposite side of the track, is obviously feeling better as he receives encouraging news from the hospital.
